Hospitality Construction in Houston

Construction Concepts is a Houston design-build contractor for hospitality construction: hotel restaurants and bars, cocktail lounges, private clubs, event halls and full-service dining rooms. For more than 25 years our team has designed, permitted and built the places Houston goes out, including Maven inside the Thompson Houston hotel, Foundation Room, Steak 48 and the Uptown location of Ninfa’s. One team handles architecture, permitting, custom millwork and construction, so the people who draw your bar are the people who build it.

Hospitality Spaces We Build

Every hospitality project carries the same pressure: guests judge the room in the first thirty seconds, and the business starts losing money the day after the planned opening slips. These are the spaces we build most often.

Hotel Restaurants, Bars, & Lobby Lounges

Hotel food and beverage work happens inside a building that is already operating. We plan around guest access, quiet hours, freight elevator schedules, and property management sign-offs so the hotel keeps running while its new outlet takes shape. At Maven in the Thompson Houston, that meant a marble bar top, fluted wall paneling, backlit liquor display, and custom seating built to a boutique hotel standard.

Bars, Cocktail Lounges, & Nightlife

A bar is a piece of equipment as much as a room. Under-bar plumbing, floor drains, ice wells, draft lines, back-bar refrigeration, and lighting all have to be coordinated before the millwork goes in. Our bar and lounge work includes Loch Bar, MYX Bar, Victor’s Lounge, Foundation Room and a cigar bar on Edloe Street.

Full-Service Restaurants & Fine Dining

Fine dining rooms put finishes under close inspection, and their kitchens carry the heaviest hood, make-up air, and refrigeration loads. We have built steakhouses and upscale dining rooms including Steak 48, Doris Metropolitan, Ouzo Bay and Acqua. For restaurant-specific scope, costs and permitting, see our restaurant build-outs in Houston page.

Event Venues, Wine Bars, & Cafes

Banquet halls, wine bars and coffee shops need flexible layouts, durable finishes and service paths that hold up to heavy traffic. Recent examples include Banquet Hall Event Center, Flying Vine Wine Bar and Bistro, and Yellow Cup Coffee.

Hospitality Projects Are Judged on Opening Day

An office tenant can move in with a punch list. A restaurant or bar cannot open until the health inspector signs off, the liquor permit is in hand, and the staff you already hired has somewhere to work. That changes how a hospitality project has to be run.

  • Guest-facing finishes. Bar tops, banquettes, lighting and wall treatments are seen up close every night. Tolerances that pass in an office read as defects in a dining room.
  • Back-of-house systems. Hoods, make-up air, grease interceptors, walk-in coolers and floor drains are sized and located early, because moving them after framing is expensive.
  • Code and accessibility. Health code, fire code, and ADA requirements shape restroom layouts, bar heights, and service counters before design is finished.
  • Fixed opening dates. Marketing, staffing, and vendor contracts are often set months ahead. The construction schedule has to protect that date.

Our Hospitality Design-Build Process

  1. Site walk and concept review. We walk the space with you, document existing conditions and talk through the concept, seat count, service style and budget.
  2. Design and drawings. Our in-house architecture and design team produces the plans, or we work directly with your architect and designer.
  3. Permitting and health plan review. Inside Houston city limits, plans go to the Houston Permitting Center for commercial plan review, and food and bar areas go through the Houston Health Department’s plan review. Outside the city, we coordinate with the county or municipal authority that has jurisdiction.
  4. Construction and millwork. Our crews build the space while our shop produces the bar fronts, back bars, banquettes and host stands.
  5. Inspections and turnover. We schedule the pre-opening health inspection early (Houston asks for at least 14 business days’ notice), close out the punch list and hand over a space ready for service.

Custom Bar & Millwork Built in Our Own Shop

Most contractors subcontract millwork and wait on someone else’s shop schedule. We build bar fronts, back bars, shelving, banquettes, host stands and display cabinetry in our own workshop, which keeps design changes inside one team and keeps the most visible pieces in the room under our control. It is also how a design detail on the drawings ends up looking the same once it is installed.

Why Houston Operators Hire Construction Concepts

  • Hospitality is most of our portfolio. More than 90 completed projects are on our portfolio, and the majority are restaurants, bars, lounges and event spaces.
  • One point of contact. Design, permitting, millwork and construction run through one accountable team instead of three firms trading emails.
  • Named, visitable work. You can eat at the projects we cite here, including Ninfa’s Uptown, Steak 48, Truth BBQ and Maven at the Thompson Houston.
  • Licensed, bonded and insured, with leadership involved on every project.
  • Houston and beyond. We build across Greater Houston and in Austin, San Antonio and Central Texas, including Torchy’s Tacos’ 100th store in Austin.
